Generative AI Policy
Al-Majmu’: Journal of Interdisciplinary Islamic Studies follows the position of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) on authorship and AI tools.
Authors
- Generative AI tools cannot be listed as authors and cannot be cited as a source of scholarly authority.
- AI tools may be used to improve language and readability under the authors’ supervision. Any other use (for example translation of sources, coding, or data analysis) must be described in the Methods section.
- Every manuscript must carry an “AI Use Statement” before the references, naming the tool, its version, and the purpose of use, or stating that no generative AI was used.
- Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of the whole text, including quotations, transcriptions, data, and references.
Editors
- Editorial decisions are made by the editors on academic grounds. AI tools must not replace scholarly judgement or the decision to accept, revise, or reject a manuscript.
- Editors may use AI tools only for administrative and technical tasks (for example checking completeness, format, and reference consistency). Unpublished manuscripts must not be uploaded to public generative AI services.
Reviewers
- Peer review must be carried out by the reviewer personally. Reviewers must not use generative AI to assess a manuscript or to write the review report.
- Manuscripts under review are confidential and must not be uploaded, in whole or in part, to any generative AI service.
Breaches
Undisclosed or improper use of AI is handled under the journal’s Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement and the relevant COPE flowcharts.
