Author Guidelines

General requirements

  • Manuscripts must be original, unpublished, and not under consideration elsewhere, and must fall within the journal’s Focus and Scope.
  • Language: English or Arabic. English manuscripts should be professionally proofread. Arabic manuscripts must include an English title, abstract, and keywords.
  • Length: research and review articles 6,000–9,000 words including references; book reviews 1,500–2,500 words.
  • Submit through this website as an anonymised Word file (.docx) using the journal template; author names and affiliations are entered only in the submission metadata.

Structure of research articles

  1. Title: concise and informative, maximum 20 words.
  2. Abstract: 200–250 words, one paragraph, stating the problem, purpose, method/sources, main findings, and contribution.
  3. Keywords: 4–6 terms.
  4. Introduction: background, research gap based on recent literature, research question, and argument.
  5. Method (or Sources and Approach): data, sources, and analytical approach.
  6. Results and Discussion: analysis organised in thematic sub-headings, in dialogue with existing scholarship.
  7. Conclusion: answers the research question, states the contribution and limitations.
  8. Declarations: author contributions (CRediT), funding, conflict of interest, generative-AI disclosure, and acknowledgements (added after review).
  9. References.

References and citation

  • Citation style: APA 7th edition, managed with a reference manager (Zotero, Mendeley, or EndNote).
  • At least 30 references, with a substantial share of peer-reviewed journal articles published in the last ten years, including international scholarship. Primary sources (Qur’an, hadith collections, classical works) are cited in full.
  • Include DOIs for all references that have one.

Transliteration

Arabic terms follow the ALA-LC Romanization tables. Common Indonesian terms (e.g., pesantren, kiai) are italicised on first use and not transliterated.

Figures and tables

Figures and tables are numbered, titled, cited in the text, and of publishable quality (min. 300 dpi). Authors must hold permission to reproduce copyrighted images.

Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • The submission is original, has not been previously published, and is not under consideration by another journal.
  • The manuscript follows the Author Guidelines and the journal template.
  • The file is anonymised for double-blind review (no author names, affiliations, or identifying self-citations in the file and file properties).
  • The abstract is 200–250 words with 4–6 keywords, and the title, abstract, and keywords are provided in English.
  • References follow APA 7th edition, include DOIs where available, and were checked for accuracy.
  • Funding, conflict of interest, and any use of generative AI are declared.
  • Permission has been obtained for all copyrighted images and materials.
  • The corresponding author has entered an active WhatsApp number in their user profile (Edit Profile › Contact › Phone). This number is used only for editorial correspondence and is never published.

Research Articles

Original research articles within the Focus and Scope; double-blind peer review by at least two reviewers.

Review Articles

Critical, systematic, or bibliometric reviews of scholarship; double-blind peer review by at least two reviewers.

Book Reviews

Reviews of recent scholarly books (1,500–2,500 words), by invitation or proposal; editorial review.
