Peer Review Process

Every manuscript is first screened by the editors for fit with the journal’s scope, completeness, anonymisation, and similarity. Manuscripts that pass are sent to at least two reviewers under a double-blind process: one specialist in the relevant kitab and discipline (a kiai, mudir, or lecturer in turāth) and one reviewer of academic method and writing. The journal follows a developmental model: manuscripts that can be improved are returned with concrete suggestions rather than rejected outright. Decisions are: accept, minor revision, major revision, or decline. The first decision is normally made within 8 weeks. The Editor-in-Chief makes the final decision, taking the reviewers’ reports into account. Reviewers must declare conflicts of interest and must not upload manuscripts to generative AI services.
